The City of Doors
Some call Sigil the City of Secrets, because everything that can be known is known somewhere in its twisting streets. Some call it the Cage, because it’s hard to get to and hard to leave. Mostly it’s called the City of Doors, thanks to the portals that connect it to the rest of the universe, like the hub of an enormous web of relationships and connections. A few wise souls like to think of Sigil as THE microcosm – a tiny reflection of everything that is, everything that has been, and everything that yet could be, represented in the form of an enormous planar metropolis.
Sigil is a plane unto itself, existing outside the ordered structure of the rest of the universe, and yet intricately connected to it through its unnumbered planar portals. It’s a filthy, noisy city with smoke-choked alleyways and crowded streets. The city is build on the inside of a gigantic, hollow ring that has no outside. To its citizens, though, it’s the center of the universe – vibrantly alive, full of every imaginable treasure.
Any newcomer to Sigil would be wise to employ the help of a Tout – a local who is willing to show newcomers around. One such tout, a ratty looking gnome named Rhys, has offered up some of the following information.
